There’s nothing worse than waking up tired every morning. A restless night of sleep can lead to lower productivity at work, mood swings, and it can even worsen chronic conditions, like arthritis and anxiety. Fortunately, there are several tips you can follow to get a better night of sleep in your Center, Texas, home, and it starts with establishing a routine.
Create a Routine
The goal is to go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time each morning. Your body prefers routine, and it will learn to shut down better at night when it knows it’s time to go to sleep. You should get at least eight hours of sleep each night, so it’s important to create a routine that allows for this. Ideally, your schedule will provide at least an hour of downtime before you go to sleep to allow both your body and mind time to relax. You can’t be going full force and hop into bed and expect to fall asleep instantly.
Adjust the HVAC Settings
Your core body temperature will drop anywhere from two to three degrees when you go to sleep. If the temperature inside your home is too warm, this confuses the body and makes it difficult to regulate sleeping patterns. For optimal sleep, the thermostat should be adjusted to 67 to 70 degrees. A smart thermostat can be used to lower the temperature in the home each night when it’s time to go to sleep without you having to make any manual adjustments.
Put Down the Phone
The blue light emitted from your phone increases brain activity and makes it hard to go to sleep. You should put down the phone at least 30 minutes before you intend to fall asleep, or if you prefer, you can use your phone’s nighttime lighting mode to turn off the blue light. This allows you to use your phone closer to bedtime without suppressing melatonin levels and increasing brain activity.
